A busy week with safeguarding
I have been supporting some case management in my volunteer role this week - always good to keep grounded! Delighted to see the new government guidance on working together to support families - have a look at https://www.gov.uk/government/news/strengthened-guidance-to-protect-children-at-risk
I have enjoyed training two very different groups this week. One was a group working towards their Qualsafe Level 2 Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults. The group worked really hard and have all been recommended for a pass. As the groups left, one delegate said : 'I have been on loads of safeguarding courses but usually you are TOLD things. This is the first one I have been on where there was time to discuss and I have learnt so much more.' I was really pleased that the case studies and group discussions had been so worthwhile.
The other group were senior managers working for a charity. This led to some really different discussions - particularly around how we - in a managerial role - make sure we are looking after ourselves as well as our staff. I know from experience we are usually really good at looking after staff, and forget the stress that supporting them - particularly through a challenging safeguarding situation - can cause us.
So perhaps my message today to all I work with is take an hour out to look after you today!
