So….dare I ask how GDPR is going for you?

I decided recently that I should practice what I am preaching to my clients and have a final GDPR ‘tidy up’. Amazing, even after 3 years in business what paperwork accumulates and it was good to have a clear out – all relevant waste having gone for confidential shredding of course! I don’t know if others have realised this but the ‘downloads’ folder of my computer had lots of files in which I had missed on my first clear out, so this is on my weekly to do list now!

I have been working with David Honour from Portal Publishing who has given me lots of help as an ‘independent eye’ on my privacy statement, policy and action plan.  If we can be of any help on this subject, do let us know.

Two questions I have been asked a few times which I thought it would be useful to share…

‘I WANT you to keep my details on file for First Aid and Food Safety so I know when my renewal is due as I know you remind me…’

Don’t worry!  All the First Aid and Food Safety I deliver is externally accredited via ITC First.  As well as this meaning you get a nationally recognised, quality assured qualification, your details are kept safe and within the boundaries of GDPR…so don’t worry about that.  You will be reminded  in plenty of time.

I have been told to destroy all my paperwork about an event I held for children in my care, but this includes a safeguarding record of concern raised.

Really important this – if you have a safeguarding concern you should record this in line with your organisations procedures.  These procedures should also set down how you store this information and how long for.  A safeguarding concern is a valid reason in law to keep information so please DON’T rush to destroy it.
